Know that ammonia trick is for old tires, not bikes. It breaks down the rubber to get them on the rim. Using a hammer just risks bending something. A rubber mallet and some soapy water works way better.

When you're starting out, you grab the free stuff that works, and suddenly that shaker or drum kit is on a hundred tracks.
