PSA: That time a client's 'assist' almost made me drop a hard drive
I was swapping out a failing drive at a small office, and the manager kept passing me cables from across the desk, which was nice until he fumbled and I had to catch the drive mid-air. Some folks in our line say this kind of thing makes the job friendlier and clients feel involved. But others think it's just asking for trouble, like when you're handling static-sensitive parts and someone leans in with a wool sweater. I've had chats with techs who love the company, saying it beats working alone in a silent room. Then there are those who've had close calls with spilled coffee or curious pets, so they set firm rules. Where do you all stand on client interaction during hands-on work?

I used to let people hang around to be polite. A client's dog bumped my ladder once and that was enough for me. Now I just ask for some space to work safely.

Curious pets" is the line for me. I don't need a cat swatting at my screwdriver while I'm trying to focus.
