I finally told my friend his 'good' coffee is just burnt beans

He said 'it's just coffee, man' while handing me a cup of his grocery store dark roast, and that casual dismissal of the whole craft is what made me realize some people will NEVER get it, so what's the point in even trying to share a great single-origin with someone like that?

My frozen chicken wings were always soggy until I tried a trick from a food blog

I was getting really annoyed because my frozen party wings would never get crispy, even after 20 minutes in the air fryer. I read on 'The Kitchn' that you should toss them with a tablespoon of cornstarch before cooking. I tried it at 400 degrees for 18 minutes, flipping halfway, and they came out perfectly crispy. Has anyone else found a good coating trick for frozen foods?

Just realized my sourdough starter was dead for a month because of my tap water

I kept feeding it and getting zero rise, thinking my kitchen was just too cold. Turns out the chlorine in our city water here in Tacoma was killing it. It took me four weeks and a failed batch of bagels to finally try bottled spring water, and it came back to life in two days. Anyone else have to switch their water source for their starter?

I used to soak all my roses overnight, but now I only do it for the ones that look tired

For years, I would dunk every rose stem in a bucket for a full 12 hours before arranging. Then, about six months ago, I got a shipment of really fresh, firm roses from a new grower. I tried just giving them a fresh cut and putting them straight into flower food, and they opened perfectly and lasted over a week. Now, I only give the long soak to roses that arrive a bit soft or droopy. It saves so much time and cooler space. Has anyone else found that not all flowers need the same prep work?

Saw an ad for this writing prompt app. Said it used 'advanced algorithms'. Paid for it. Opened it up. First prompt was just 'purple' and 'Tuesday'. That's it. Tried again. Got 'sock' and 'moon'. Total waste. Anyone know a good free prompt site instead?

My cousin roasted my password game at a family BBQ in Omaha

Honestly, he saw me unlock my phone and just said 'Patricia, your password is literally your dog's name and your birthday, a toddler could hack you.' Tbh, I felt so called out I went home and finally set up a password manager and made everything random. Ngl, what's the dumbest password you ever used before you knew better?

Changed my mind about spoiler culture after a convo at a coffee shop

I used to think spoiler warnings were for people who were too slow to watch things. Then I was at The Daily Grind in Chicago, talking about the new Jujutsu Kaisen arc with a friend. He said, 'I'm still catching up, but I heard a big thing happens to Gojo.' He didn't say what, but just knowing something was coming totally changed how I watched the next five episodes. I was looking for clues instead of just enjoying it. Now I get why people ask for warnings. Has anyone else had a spoiler ruin a show for them, even a vague one?

Pro tip: I gave up on trying to grow a full herb garden on my windy 12th-floor balcony in Seattle.

Last year, I kept planting basil and cilantro in regular pots, and they'd get shredded within a week. I switched to a cheap, short plastic greenhouse cover from a local garden store, and my parsley and thyme have been fine for two months now. Has anyone else found a good fix for really windy spots without building a big screen?

My dad said we should always use 1/4 inch glass for shower doors and I finally pushed back

We were doing a job in Phoenix last month and the client wanted a frameless look with 3/8 inch glass. My dad, who taught me the trade, got real quiet and said 'That's too thin, it'll wobble. Stick with what works.' But I looked up the codes and for a door that size, 3/8 is actually fine if the hinges are right. It made me think, how many other 'rules' are just old habits? Has anyone else switched to thicker glass for frameless showers and had it work out okay?

The foreman said we burned through the patch job from two weeks ago in under 80 hours because the mix was too wet going in... anyone have a good refractory contractor near Toledo they trust?
