Stopped at a rest area near Flagstaff and saw something that made me think

I was driving back from a trip yesterday and pulled into that big rest stop just east of Flagstaff on I-40. While I was stretching my legs, I saw a guy in the parking lot with his hood up, trying to jump his truck with one of those small portable battery packs. He was having a real hard time, and it got me looking at all the cars parked there. I must have seen at least four other vehicles with really low tire pressure, just from a quick glance. It hit me how many people are out on the road right now who probably haven't checked their tire pressure or battery terminals in months. I carry a cheap tire gauge and a set of jumper cables in my trunk, and it costs maybe thirty bucks total. That little kit has gotten me and a few strangers out of a bind more than once. It's such a simple thing to do, but it makes a big difference when you need it. Has anyone else had a moment like that, where seeing someone else struggle made you glad you did your basic car checks?

My tire gauge is some generic brand from the auto parts store, but it gets the job done. Seeing that guy struggle made me double-check my own battery terminals when I got home, they were pretty corroded. You're right about that small kit making a big difference, it's saved my bacon before. Hey @david_fisher37, as long as it reads the pressure, the brand doesn't matter too much in my book.

What brand of tire gauge do you carry?
