Just fixed a frozen seatpost with a trick from a guy at the bike co-op

My old steel frame bike's seatpost was totally stuck, wouldn't budge with normal force. He told me to pour a little ammonia down the seat tube, let it sit overnight, and it broke free the next morning with a gentle twist. What's your go-to method for a seized seatpost?

Ammonia, really? I just whack it with a hammer until I feel bad for the bike.

Know that ammonia trick is for old tires, not bikes. It breaks down the rubber to get them on the rim. Using a hammer just risks bending something. A rubber mallet and some soapy water works way better.
