I used to think keeping my rough draft secret until it was polished was the right move. But last week I sent a messy first draft of a letter to a friend who writes for a living. She pointed out I had been burying my main point under three paragraphs of filler for years. Now I wonder if sharing early saves more time than waiting. Which side are you on, do you keep drafts hidden until they shine or show them as soon as they exist? Has anyone else had a moment where showing raw work turned out better than waiting?

He said introductions are just promises you break later anyway, which felt weird at first. But I rewrote it that night with the character admitting she stole her sister's prom dress, and suddenly the whole rest of the story clicked into place. Has anyone else had a teacher or old mentor give you feedback that totally flipped how you approach a first draft?

Had the tumbler in a corner of the backyard for 6 months, turned it every week, and somehow a rat crawled in through the air hole and got trapped, so now I'm wondering if the whole batch is ruined or if I can just pick it out and keep going, has anyone dealt with this before?

Was rereading last night's draft about a guy getting lost in a corn maze. Kept swapping 'walked' for 'ambled' and 'said' for 'murmured'. Then I realized I was just covering up a boring scene with fancy words. How do you stop yourself from dressing up weak writing instead of fixing it?
