Just realized why most shows flop after season 3

I binged 4 shows in a row this month that all went downhill right when they hit season 3. It's like clockwork. The writers run out of source material or the original plot gets wrapped up and they just start making up random drama. I was watching this one crime drama where season 1 and 2 were tight and focused, then season 3 introduced a long lost twin nobody ever mentioned. Has anyone else noticed this pattern with your favorite shows or am I just picking bad ones?

My doubt about rain barrels just got wrecked by last week's storm

I always thought rain barrels were more trouble than they're worth, but after that 3-inch downpour last Tuesday in Decatur, I watched my neighbor's setup collect over 50 gallons while my garden flooded. He showed me how his simple setup with a $30 spigot and screen kept the water clean for his raised beds. Has anyone else had a surprising win with a simple rainwater setup?

Old bookbinder at a shop in Austin told me I was ruining my glue

I was at this tiny bindery off South Congress showing off my first full rebind, and this retired guy walks over and just says 'you glued that spine like you're trying to waterproof a boat.' He showed me how I was using way too much PVA and it was cracking the joints. Anyone else run into a random old timer who completely changed how you do one step?

Fixed a stuck shutter on a Nikon FM2 with a guitar pick

Had this Nikon FM2 come in with the shutter stuck halfway. Tried the usual stuff - cleaning the blades with lighter fluid, cycling it manually. Nothing worked. Then I remembered an old trick from a forum about using thin plastic to free up sticky blades. Took a 0.5mm guitar pick, sliced a tiny piece off, and wedged it between the curtain and the frame. Gave it a gentle nudge and the shutter snapped right back. Reassembled and it's firing fine now at all speeds down to 1/4000. Anyone else use random household items for repairs?

Hit 500 hours of stacking astro photos and the results finally clicked

I spent 500 hours over two years stacking deep sky images with free software. Most folks say you need expensive gear or pro processing to get good shots. But I used a basic DSLR and a tripod, no tracking mount. The moment I combined 300 frames of Andromeda and saw the dust lanes pop out, I realized patience beats a fancy setup every time. Has anyone else found that time behind the lens matters more than the gear price tag?

Debate: Should you match your front door color to your house or go bold?

My neighbor painted her door bright yellow last month and it looks awesome, but my wife says it clashed with our beige brick house. Three years ago I painted ours red and everyone loved it, but now I think it faded too fast. I see both sides - matching feels safe but bold makes a statement. What do you all think, does color coordinate with the house or pop out more?

Overheard a concrete guy at the lumberyard say he uses rebar stakes for fence posts

Was picking up some gravel yesterday and this older concrete contractor was telling his helper how he's done fence posts for years using rebar stakes driven next to the posts instead of concrete. Said it lets the posts move with the ground freeze and never crack like concrete does. Never heard that approach before. Has anyone else tried that method or seen it hold up long term?

Spent 45 minutes chasing a vacuum leak on a 2012 Focus, turned out to be a loose PCV hose clamp I could've spotted in 10 seconds.

Ended up pulling the whole intake manifold off before realizing the clamp was barely a quarter turn loose, has anyone else gone way too deep on a simple fix?

Last Tuesday was the best day I have had on the job in years

I was working on a garden wall in Oak Park, and every brick just landed perfect with no gaps or lippage. The mortar set up at exactly the right pace, and I finished the whole thing four hours early. Has anyone else had a day where it felt like the bricks were working with you instead of against you?
