Why does nobody talk about using a simple leveling compound on uneven floors

Last month I tried laying down some new vinyl planks in my basement and the old concrete had these low spots that made everything rock. After three tries with different underlayment I finally just poured a thin layer of self leveling compound in the worst spots and it came out flat as a table. Has anyone else found a faster way to deal with uneven subfloors that doesn't involve grinding down the whole slab?

That $200 astrophotography filter I bought was basically useless

Picked up a cheap dual narrowband filter off Amazon for $200 thinking it would help with light pollution in my backyard. First night out, the images came out with weird halos around every star and the colors looked fake. Tried it three more times with different settings and same result. Ended up going back to my stock Canon and just shooting widefield from darker spots. Anyone else get burned by those budget filters?

TIL my pre-approval letter was basically worthless because I didn't lock the rate

I got pre-approved back in March by a big online lender and thought I was golden. Found a house I liked in Austin two weeks ago, and when I called to get the official rate, it had jumped almost a full point from what the letter said. The loan officer told me pre-approval rates are more like a suggestion unless you pay to lock them in. Has anyone else gotten blindsided by rising rates between pre-approval and making an offer?

Spent 3 hours trying to fix a CSV file for an AI model yesterday

I was trying to feed a big dataset into a custom AI classification tool I found on GitHub. The CSV file had some weird formatting from an old database export. It took me about 3 hours to figure out the line breaks were causing the model to ignore half the rows. I checked everything from column headers to missing tags before I noticed the pattern. Why does nobody talk about running torque specs on dry threads instead of oiled?

Switched to dry torque on main bearing caps after a CAT master tech told me I was adding 15% extra clamp force for 8 years, and now I'm curious how many of you actually check your thread condition before grabbing the torque wrench.

Shoutout to Franklin Barbecue for showing me what patience looks like

I finally made it down to Austin last weekend and stood in line at Franklin for 2 hours. Tbh I thought it was just hype but that brisket literally fell apart from the smoke ring alone. The way they manage that line and keep the meat consistent is wild, has anyone else been blown away by a pitmaster's setup like that?

I had a chat with a buddy who runs a small butcher shop in Denver. He said those bulk meat sales at grocery stores look great but the quality drops fast. He mentioned that a cheap chuck roast might lose 30% of its weight in water and fat when you cook it. That means you're paying more per pound of actual meat once its cooked. A guy at the trailhead told me my tent footprint was too small

He pointed out that my footprint was about two inches shy of the actual tent floor, letting water pool under the fly. I swapped it for a proper sized one from the same brand, and my floor stayed bone dry during a downpour in the Smokies last month. The basil that turned purple on me was a total surprise

Haha I did the exact same thing with my cilantro last year. Thought putting it on the north side of my apartment would be "partial shade" but it was basically a dark cave. The whole plant turned this sad yellowish green and drooped like it was depressed or something. Moved it to a south facing window and it perked right up but now I have way too much cilantro. My salsa game is strong but my neighbors are getting tired of me dropping off bags of it like some kind of herb dealer. Gardening on a balcony is basically trial and error with a side of humiliation.
