Nearly got fined $200 at Yellowstone because some ranger saw my old camp stove

Guy at the check-in station told me my 6 year old Coleman couldn't pass the new fire safety rules, and he wasn't kidding about writing me up. Has anyone else had a ranger call out their gear for being too old?

Tried wet aging a ribeye in my home fridge for 45 days

Got a primal cut from a local ranch outside Austin and decided to try wet aging it myself. After 45 days in the fridge, it had a strong sour smell and the texture got weirdly slimy. Has anyone else had wet aging go bad on them, or did I mess up the temp control?

Serious question... why do vendors always schedule demos during peak hours?

I had a vendor rep call me last Wednesday at 2 PM right in the middle of our monthly inventory crunch. I told her I was busy but she insisted it would only take 10 minutes. Then she spent 45 minutes walking me through their new software while I had three orders sitting on my desk. By the time she was done I had to stay late to catch up on ship dates. This keeps happening at least once a week and I'm about ready to block unknown numbers during business hours. Has anyone else dealt with sales people who just don't respect your time?

I used to think residential solar was just a gimmick for rich people, but after he showed me his actual utility statements from last July I started seriously looking into quotes for my own house - anyone else see big savings after switching?

Rant: That neighbor who "helped" me hang drywall

Last summer, my neighbor Bob came over to show me how to hang drywall in my garage. He spent twenty minutes lecturing me about using a drywall lift, then pushed me aside to hang the first sheet himself and cracked it right down the middle. Has anyone else had a "helper" who just made things worse?

Had to pick between a Kone or an Otis controller for that old 1960s freight car

Went with the Otis because the Kone was gonna need a whole new wiring harness and I only had 3 days. Shaft is running smooth now but I'm still chasing a ghost door lock fault - anyone else run into that on these retrofits?

The difference a 3/4 inch reveal makes on a kitchen island

I built two islands for the same client, one in 2021 and a new one last month. The old one had flush cabinet doors, but the new design used a 3/4 inch reveal around the whole piece. That small gap changed the whole look from heavy and blocky to light and modern. The client said it felt like a custom piece from a high end magazine. What's the smallest design change you've made that had the biggest visual impact?

I was stuck between adding more detail or keeping it simple like that, and I picked simple. It forced me to focus on shape and light, and honestly my work got way better.

Found out my sourdough starter is older than my car

I was cleaning out my fridge and found a note stuck to my starter jar from 2018. I've been feeding this same culture for over six years now. I looked it up and a healthy starter can basically live forever if you take care of it. My car is a 2019 model, so this jar of goop has been bubbling longer than I've owned my ride. It's wild to think I've kept something alive that long just by adding flour and water. Has anyone else had a starter hit a big milestone like that?

Guy in the parking lot gave away a whole box of old records for free

At the grocery store last week, a man was putting a big cardboard box next to the dumpster. He saw me looking and just said, 'Take them, they're yours.' It was full of classic rock albums from the 70s. Do you ever get the best free stuff when you least expect it?

Rant: That safety meeting last week changed how I think about air checks

Have you ever read about that incident where a tiny pinhole leak in a high pressure line turned into a full on hose whip? I saw a video once where a guy was just checking his gear and a microscopic leak under the seat actually caused a fire because of the oxygen. It's wild how we obsess over the big stuff like tank valves and regs, but its the little crap that gets you. I do a full visual check on every single o-ring now, even the ones that look fine, because of stories like yours lol. Makes me paranoid, but I guess thats the point.

Yeah but a YEAR isn't really that long for a piece of gear that's supposed to keep your product safe. I'd rather spend more upfront than gamble on losing hundreds of dollars in meat.
