Bought a $400 ERP add-on and it just tracks employee birthdays
Our ops team in Austin dropped $400 on a 'workflow automation' module for our system, turns out it only pings HR when someone has a birthday. Anyone else get burned by software that overpromises the sales demo?

400 bucks for a birthday reminder is wild. Whoever sold that knew exactly what they were doing too. The demo probably showed a fake dashboard with all these fancy arrows and boxes, and nobody asked the one question that matters, which is what does it actually do. My old company got hit with something like this, a "time tracking" tool that just pulled data from the calendar we already had. Sales people are trained to talk fast and show pretty slides so you never get a clear answer. Birthday alerts could be a free script someone writes in ten minutes. You basically paid for a very expensive calendar.
