I kept seeing people complain that the $1.25 canned chicken at Dollar Tree is gross and watery. I tried it twice and hated it too. Then my aunt showed me she puts the whole can in the fridge overnight before opening. You open it, pour off the jelly stuff on top, and it turns out flaky like regular canned chicken. Made a buffalo chicken dip with it last week and nobody could tell. Anyone else got a trick for making dollar store protein work better?
I was looking at the label on a can of chicken breast at Dollar Tree last week and noticed the drained weight was listed separately from the total weight. Turns out they pack it with way less liquid than name brand cans I've bought at Walmart, so you get more actual meat for your dollar. Has anyone else compared the drained weights on other dollar store canned meats?
I bought a bag of those frozen chicken patties for $1.25 last week thinking they would be a quick dinner. They looked fine in the package but after I cooked them the texture was all rubbery and weird. I ended up throwing half the bag away because they just tasted off. The seasoning was way too salty and it overwhelmed everything else. I tried putting them on a bun with lettuce and tomato but that didn't help. Save your dollar and get the canned chicken instead, that stuff actually works for tacos or casseroles. Has anyone else had a bad experience with their frozen meats?
