Overheard a welder at the Tractor Supply in Decatur say he anneals his steel with a propane torch before bending

Tried it on a set of hooks last night and it worked way better." That's all you need. I do the same with my propane torch. Cherry red and let it cool slow.

That time I doubted a digital level on a freight elevator install

Honestly, "bold move" is putting it mildly. Dropping a bubble level like that probably messed with the vial anyway, so trusting it over a digital one is just asking for trouble. Ngl, I've had digital levels be dead-on even after being dropped, but a bubble level? That's a gamble. Tbh, I'd rather just buy a new one than hope an old one still works right after a fall like that.

Question about the 'unreliable narrator' label we keep throwing around

That part about Nick being "a pretty honest guy describing his own confusion" really stuck with me. I just heard a podcast that said labels like this can make us miss the messy way real people remember things.

Just realized I was stripping coax wrong for 8 months straight

The punch down method is where I started too and I messed up so many lines before someone corrected me. That braid is a pain when you nick it and then the signal gets all kinds of fuzzy. So with that compression tool you mentioned, does it work better on the thicker RG6 or does it handle the smaller stuff like RG59 without mangling the connector? I keep going back and forth on whether the Klein is worth the money or if the cheaper ones do the same thing long term.

Shoutout to the city permit process that delayed our big removal job for months

My buddy Mark did something like that last year. Took a picture of his permit application sitting on the city clerk's desk with the date stamp visible. Sent it to the client every Friday with a "still waiting" text. Took 14 weeks total for a simple deck. @adams.taylor is right about the buffer, Mark added 3 weeks and still barely made it. Client stayed patient the whole time though, just because of those little updates.
