Sat through 14 episodes of an anime I hated just to prove my friend right, and now I need to pick a better way to drop shows
My buddy and I made a deal back in March that we'd each finish a show the other picked, no skipping. He gave me a 26 episode one that looked awful to me, and I gave him a 12 episode one. I stuck it out for 14 episodes waiting for it to click like he promised, and by then I was so deep in I just finished the whole thing to say I did. It never clicked. So now I'm trying to figure out a better rule for myself. I tried the "3 episode test" first, but I dropped two shows at episode 3 that I actually ended up liking later when a coworker in Denver kept pushing them. Then I tried giving things 6 episodes and that felt too long for stuff I could tell was not for me by minute 10. I keep going back and forth between a hard 3 episode cutoff and a looser "one full arc" rule, and neither one feels right. What's your actual cutoff for dropping a show, and do you count it from episode 1 or after the intro arc?
