My grandpa's old hand tools are collecting dust in my shop
Honestly, I was cleaning out my shop the other day and found my grandpa's old marking gauge and a set of hand planes. They've been sitting there for years since I mostly use my table saw and router now. Tbh, I decided to build a small keepsake box using only his tools, just to see how it felt. It took me all weekend to get the joints right without any power help, just like he used to do. Ngl, my hands were sore from all the sawing and planing, but the wood felt alive under my fingers. I remember him saying that a true cabinetmaker knows the wood by hand, not just by machine. Now, with all the digital cut lists and CNC routers, it's so different. Part of me misses that slow, careful work, even if it's not practical for big jobs.
