Blew $60 on a Kickstarter board game that never shipped - check the creator's history first

Yeah the "ran out of funds" thing is a classic. I think @the_jordan nailed it with checking the creator's past campaigns first because that empty box story is brutal. The thing people dont get is that Kickstarter lets creators run multiple projects without finishing any of them. I always dig into the comments on their older campaigns too. If you see a pattern of people yelling for refunds or waiting years for updates, run. A couple minutes of research beats losing sixty bucks every time.

Found a tiny hairline crack on my favorite mug from college - turns out it's 14 years old

I still have a mug from 2011 that's basically held together by coffee stains and spite at this point. Maybe it's time we both accept our mugs are living on borrowed time.

Almost got stranded on the JMT because of a bad water filter

Did you try backflushing it with the little syringe thing they give you? I had a Sawyer do the same thing on a trip in the Sierra once and I was about ready to chuck it in a lake, but then I realized the backflushing really needs to be done hard and fast a few times, not just a gentle push. I also started carrying a small piece of pantyhose to wrap around the intake as a pre-filter, which helps keep the big junk out before it even gets to the filter. After that trip I learned to always check the flow rate before I leave and pack a few aquatabs as a backup just in case, they weigh nothing and save your butt.

Just watched a guy at the local shop spend 15 minutes smelling unroasted beans from 3 different bags

Oh man, that stuff kills me. My buddy Mark who lives over in Seattle told me about this dude he saw at a third wave shop who literally brought out a magnifying glass to look at the roast level on a single bean. Like, dude, it's coffee, not a diamond or a crime scene. He said the guy was taking pictures of the crema on his espresso and zooming way in on his phone screen. Nobody said anything because the barista was just as into it. But Mark was just trying to grab a quick cortado before work and ended up waiting ten extra minutes. Some people just love the theater more than the drink, I guess.

Swore by bottom-watering my succulents for 2 years until a rot I never noticed wiped out 4 plants in one weekend

Wait, did you check if your pots have drainage holes? Everyone talks about watering method but nobody mentions that bottom watering can hide bad drainage in the pot itself. I had a glazed ceramic with a tiny hole that barely let water out. The tray soak just filled up the pot and the water had nowhere to go after. Top watering is better for testing actual drainage speed. If your pot takes more than a few seconds to drain, it's a pot problem, not a watering method problem.
