Spent $200 on a fancy color remover that ruined my client's hair

I bought this expensive color remover from a brand I saw all over Instagram... thought it would be gentle on her hair but it totally stripped the integrity out. After two applications her hair felt like straw and I had to do a deep protein treatment for an hour just to get it back to normal. The whole process took 4 hours and I ended up refunding her $150 because she was so upset. Has anyone else fallen for those Instagram product ads that don't deliver?

Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to fix a bad lash lift?

I had a client come in last week with a lash lift that was totally fried from another salon. I figured id just rehydrate and fix it in like an hour. Nope. Took me almost 3 full days of conditioning treatments and trimming out damage before I could even try a new lift. The worst part was convincing her to wait instead of expecting instant results. Has anyone else dealt with fixing someone elses botched work taking way longer than you planned?

I finally switched from tag lines to a remote control system last month

After 12 years of fighting with tag lines on windy days at the Port of Seattle, I gave in and bought a used Skytronix remote for my crawler crane. The first lift with it felt weird, like I was cheating (you know, no one yelling directions up to me). Has anyone else made the switch and found it harder to trust the remote over a good ground guy?

Appreciation post: the neighbor who told me I was pressure washing too close to my siding

About a year ago a guy walking his dog stopped and said I was blasting the vinyl too hard with the pressure washer. He pointed out I was forcing water up under the panels and that would cause mold inside the wall over time. I figured he was just being nosy but after looking it up online I realized he was totally right. Now I use a wider spray pattern and keep the nozzle at least 2 feet away. Has anyone else gotten random advice from a stranger that actually saved them from a bigger problem down the road?

Hot take: I saw a video from a designer in Seoul saying pockets ruin a silhouette

They were talking about how adding pockets to a dress or skirt always makes the hips look wider, so they avoid them. I get the clean line thing, but come on, where are we supposed to put our hands or a phone? I've been sketching some A-line skirt ideas with hidden side seam pockets that don't add bulk. Has anyone else found a good way to hide functional pockets without messing up the shape?

My dog found a weird rock in the backyard that turned out to be a fossil

My beagle, Baxter, dug up this heavy, bumpy rock near our fence in Boise. I thought it was just a weird stone, but after cleaning it off, I saw a clear spiral pattern. I posted a picture on a local rockhound forum and a guy named Carl told me it's a gastropod fossil, probably from the Glenns Ferry Formation. Has anyone else found fossils in their own yard like that?

Remember when you could just pick up a decent piece of petrified wood on the ground?

About ten years back, I spent a week in the Petrified Forest and the ground was littered with small, colorful pieces. I filled a whole coffee can with them for my niece. Went back last fall and you have to walk for miles to find even a tiny chip, and the park rangers watch you like a hawk. It feels like the easy finds are just gone now. Anyone else notice their old collecting spots are totally picked over?

I finally stopped using store-bought starter for my kombucha after a batch in my Phoenix apartment last July went vinegary in 3 days.
