Broke my favorite mug on a Tuesday and ended up with a better setup
I was rushing out the door at 6:40 last Tuesday and knocked my daily mug off the counter. It was a heavy stoneware one from a trip to Asheville and it shattered on the tile. For two days I was using a thin excuse for a cup and my coffee kept going cold in about 8 minutes. So I stopped guessing and actually weighed my beans for the first time, 15 grams in and 250 grams of water out. The funny part is that dumb broken mug made me slow down and my brew got way more even. Now I'm hunting for a replacement that holds heat better, any stoneware mugs out there that actually keep it warm past 10 minutes?
I mean if the coffee's going cold fast it might not even be the mug, a cold room or a mug you didn't preheat will wreck it no matter what you buy. Try pouring hot water in and letting it sit a minute before your coffee goes in. Cheap trick but it made more of a difference for me than the mug itself did.
