inLearned a cheap trick to keep my shop vac running strong
Best trick I've done in years. I tossed a cheap cloth bag in my Rigid shop vac and it doubled the time between filter cleanings. That thing used to choke on drywall dust after ten minutes, now I can finish a whole room without stopping. Also cuts down on the dust cloud when you finally have to whack the filter outside. Eight bucks is a steal for that fix.

inMy grandpa's old mug cracked straight down the middle last Tuesday
Food safe epoxy works way better than super glue for mugs.

inMy sous chef told me to stop pre-salting steaks before service
Is this like how people think one cooking rule applies to everything when really it depends on what you started with? I feel like that happens with a lot of stuff, like how my mom swears by one cleaning product no matter what the mess is.

inHad a chat with a commercial GC last week who said my carpet seams were too tight
Had a friend who does flooring on the side mention this exact thing a few months back... he said some of his customers complained about the carpet feeling loose after a while, and when he pulled it up the backing was all cracked and separated. He figured it was from people cranking the stretcher too hard trying to get it smooth. Makes sense if you think about it, the backing wasn't made to be that tight in the first place... Guess it's a trade-off between ripples now and ripples later.

inThought I was saving money buying my own specialty tools, turns out the shop's loaners were better
Tip snapped off inside a pin" haha oh man I felt that one in my wallet. Yeah I bought a cheap torque wrench once to save a few bucks and it was off by like 15 foot pounds, nearly ruined a whole set of cylinder head bolts. Its funny how you think youre being smart skipping the expensive stuff but the shop tools have been abused for years and still work better. Now I just wait for the loaner set to come back or borrow from the guy next to me.
