Hot take: I fixed a dead Xbox by cleaning the power button with a q-tip

Wait, you're saying blowing on it fixed a whole controller issue? That seems way too easy for a real hardware problem. Dust might cause a bad connection sometimes, but a full disconnect sounds like something worse. I've had controllers die from worn out batteries or broken parts inside. Maybe you just got lucky and it was a one time thing. I'd be surprised if that fix lasts long term.

I was giving advice wrong for years until a neighbor in Seattle told me something simple

Yeah, that neighbor's advice is spot on. I've learned to just start with "Tell me more about that" and then shut up. It forces me to listen to the whole story instead of planning my answer. hart.taylor is right, we're usually just waiting to talk. The fix is making your first goal understanding, not fixing.

Serious heads-up about the new sediment curtain regs on the Columbia

Totally agree with @west.claire about the anchor and weight being the main thing. I've heard the same from a few guys who work those smaller streams. The problem is when one inspector decides to write up every single little thing, even stuff that doesn't really affect the barrier's job. It feels like they're just trying to justify their visit sometimes, lol. That inconsistency is what makes the fines so frustrating, because you never know what you're gonna get.

Vent: A client's 'dusty rose' turned into a vibrant pink in under ten minutes

Wait, a DROP per OUNCE? @jade_lane you have way steadier hands than me, that's a crazy small amount. I'd be so scared to mess it up and turn everything gray. The green fighting the orange thing makes total sense though, I just never thought to use it in clear gloss. That's actually genius for keeping the color clean.

Picking up a free dresser in Tacoma taught me to always check the drawers first

That "simple question before heading over" thing is so smart. I see it all the time with people selling stuff online, they'll leave out one key detail that makes the trip a waste. Like saying a table is "ready to use" but not mentioning the wobbly leg you have to see to believe.
