The switch from magnesium to aluminum floats for garage floors

I used to swear by a 4 foot magnesium float for finishing garage slabs, thinking the extra weight gave a better burn. After a job in Springfield where the heat hit 95 degrees, the concrete set so fast my magnesium float started dragging and tearing the surface. Now I keep an aluminum float on the truck for hot days or fast mixes, because it glides over the cream without sticking. Anyone else change their float choice based on the weather or mix design?

My first time with a magnesium float was on a basement pour in July. I spent more time chipping concrete off the thing than I did finishing the floor. Switched to aluminum the next day and never looked back.

Wait, you chipped concrete off the float itself?
