Pulled a job ticket for a 1920s house and the old wiring was a real shock

I was working on a retrofit in an old neighborhood last week, trying to tie a new panel into the existing low voltage lines. I found out the original alarm wire from the 80s was run right next to the main power line for the whole floor, like inches apart. My meter was picking up crazy interference. I looked it up in an old trade manual and it said that kind of parallel run can cause false alarms for sure. Anyone else run into this in really old builds and have a good fix besides a full re-pull?

Finally got a clean fish through a tricky soffit after three attempts

An old timer at the supply house told me to wrap the tip in electrical tape, and it slid right through without snagging. Anyone have a better trick for a 90-degree turn in a finished attic?

I finally got a phishing email right in my own inbox and caught it

Honestly I just delete anything from my bank without even checking the details. I mean they never email you for real stuff, it's always a text alert or a note inside the app. If it hits the inbox, it's fake to me. Checking the sender is good but they spoof those now too. It's not worth the risk to even click the link to look at it.

A warning about using tap water versus rain water for sensitive seedlings

Hard water is a killer for seedlings. My city water left white crust on the pots. I started filling a bucket and letting it sit out for a day before watering, which helps some. But rain water is the real fix. I keep a couple of big plastic tubs by the downspout now. The plants just look happier, you know? It's free and it works.
