TIL the bakery in my town sells their 'ugly' cakes for half price on Fridays
I stopped by Sweet Street Bakery in Springfield yesterday and saw a whole shelf of cakes with slightly lopsided layers or frosting that wasn't perfectly smooth. The owner told me they started doing this about six months ago to cut down on waste. They sell them for half the normal price, and they're usually gone by noon. It made me think about how much we focus on looks over taste in baking (I mean, they still taste amazing). Has anyone else seen a local spot do something like this with their baking fails?

Love that idea so much. It makes me wonder if other food places could do the same thing. Like a pizza shop selling slices from pies that got a little messed up in the oven, or a donut place having a bag of the broken ones for cheap. We throw away so much good food just because it looks a bit weird. I'd buy the ugly stuff every time if it meant less waste and saved me some cash.

My local bakery sells "reject" croissants cheap, and they taste just as good as the pretty ones.
