Question about the new 2-hour parking on Whyte Ave

I was grabbing lunch at that sandwich shop on 82 Ave last Tuesday, and I heard two drivers arguing over a spot near the meter. One guy was pissed that the city shortened parking from 3 hours to 2, saying it kills small business foot traffic. The other was happy it frees up spaces quicker for people like me who just need a quick stop. I've been circling the block three times now and I'm starting to think the shorter limit only helps if people actually respect it. Which side do you fall on, and has anyone noticed if the shops on Whyte actually lose or gain customers because of this?

The time my alligator tour guide in Edmonton got mad at a Canada goose

Last summer I booked one of those riverboat tours on the North Saskatchewan, thinking we'd spot some cool wildlife, but our guide kept ranting about how a goose stole his sandwich three days in a row near the Low Level Bridge. Mid-sentence, a goose actually landed on the boat rail and hissed at his cooler, and the guy just threw his clipboard into the water and started clapping at it. Has anyone else had a tour in this city where the guide totally lost it over something ridiculous, or did I just hit the jackpot?

Lost $380 on a driveway sealing job that peeled in 2 months

Hired a guy off Kijiji last spring to seal my asphalt driveway in Ellerslie. He quoted $380 cash and promised it would last 3 years. By August the coating was flaking off in chunks and water was pooling in the low spots again. I called him back and he stopped answering my texts, total ghost. Turns out he used a cheap water-based sealer instead of the coal tar stuff that actually bonds here. Has anyone else had a bad experience with random driveway guys, or know a legit company that will redo it right for a fair price?

That overhyped BBQ spot on Whyte Ave finally made sense to me

I spent months rolling my eyes every time someone suggested that place with the line out the door. Last Saturday I gave up and waited 40 minutes in the cold, then ordered the brisket platter for $24. Riverside gym vs downtown rec center, I switched and my joints changed

After 5 years at a commercial gym downtown I got fed up with the wait for squat racks every evening. My buddy kept pushing the public rec center by the river valley so I finally tried it last month out of frustration. Turns out the old equipment there is actually better for me, less crowded at 6pm and the floors have that real rubber matting instead of the thin stuff the other place put in. I pay like $35 a month now instead of $60 and I can actually do my full routine without someone hovering for my spot. The only downside is the hours are way tighter on weekends, they close at 6pm which kills my Sunday sessions. Has anyone else made the jump from a private gym to a city rec center and found the equipment quality totally fine or even better? I'm curious if I'm just getting lucky with this one location or if it's a common thing across Edmonton.

Paid $400 for snow tire swap and the shop scratched my rim

I took my car to that quick lube place on 99th Street last November, figured $400 was steep but they got me in same day. When I picked it up they had gouged the passenger side rim and tried to blame it on old salt damage, which was total BS since I bought those rims new in September. Anyone else dealt with shops denying damage after they touch your car, or do I just need to start taking photos before I hand over the keys?

The hype around a certain sushi spot on 124th was actually true...

I usually roll my eyes when everyone keeps posting about the same place, but my buddy dragged me to that spot near 124th street last Friday... told me the line is worth it. We waited 45 minutes outside, which I thought was insane, but the torched salmon nigiri was honestly the best I've had in Edmonton, maybe ever. I finally found a decent sushi place near the south side

A coworker from work told me to try Sushi Garden on Calgary Trail, said it was the closest thing to what he had in Japan. I went last Saturday and got the chirashi bowl for $24, honestly it was the best fish I've had in Edmonton so far. The salmon was actually fresh and not just a slab of frozen stuff. Went to Bon Ton Bakery last Tuesday on a coworker's tip. Got their butter tart and a rye loaf. The tart crust was flaky, not the soggy mess I usually get.
