A door skin weld pulled through on a 2018 Silverado job in Boise

I was doing a full door skin replacement on a 2018 Silverado at my shop in Boise, and my spot welder pulled right through the new panel on the third weld. I realized the welder's amperage was set too high for the gauge. I turned it down to 3.5 and used a copper spoon behind the next spot, which worked perfectly. Anyone have a better trick for preventing blow-through on newer, thinner door skins?

Shoutout to the air fryer for saving my week when my oven broke

My oven's heating element gave out on a Tuesday, right when I had planned to cook a big meal for my parents visiting from out of town. I was stressed, thinking I'd have to order takeout for three days straight. I decided to just try everything in the air fryer instead. I made chicken thighs, roasted broccoli, and even a small batch of cookies, all in that little basket. It took some juggling with the timing, but everything came out great, especially the chicken skin which got super crispy. My mom actually said, 'I might use my oven less now.' Has anyone else had to rely on their air fryer as a main cooker for a few days? What meals worked best for you?

Was helping a neighbor fix his deck last weekend. His drill battery was dead, so I grabbed my old corded one from the truck. He had a different brand drill, a newer model. Went to tighten a bit and realized I didn't have his chuck key. Out of frustration, I tried mine. It fit perfectly. Tried it on another buddy's drill later that day, a third brand. It worked there too. Did some digging online and found a forum post from a tool repair guy. He said a lot of older chuck keys from the 90s and early 2000s share the same basic tooth pattern. They just stamped different brand names on them. Saved me from buying two new keys I didn't need. Anyone else have a universal tool part that surprised them?

I had to move the rest of the flock into the garage for the afternoon to calm them down. Has anyone else had a hawk strike that fast, and what did you do to make the run safer?

That time a broken TV in a hotel lobby taught me to always check the fuse first

I was fixing a big screen at a hotel in Dayton last year, and I spent almost an hour checking the power board and backlights. My boss was getting annoyed. Then, I finally looked at the main fuse on the primary side. It was blown, plain as day. I swapped it with a new 4 amp fuse from my kit, and the whole thing lit right up. I felt pretty silly for missing such a simple step. Do you guys have a go-to checklist you run through before diving into the deep end of a repair?
