Remembering my first sourdough starter disaster back in college

Back in my old apartment in Tempe, I tried making a sourdough starter using just some all-purpose flour and tap water. I'd feed it once a day, get a few bubbles, and then it would just die or smell really bad after about 4 days. I must have thrown out five jars before I gave up. Now, I use a kitchen scale to measure everything, I keep it on a schedule, and I only use filtered water. The big change came after I watched a video from a baker in San Francisco who said the chlorine in tap water was killing my yeast. My starter is over a year old now and it's like a pet. What was the one tip that finally made your sourdough work?

Just got a 737's main gear door to seal perfectly after two days of fighting it

It was a 2019 model that came in with a write-up for a slow leak. The door would not sit flush by about an eighth of an inch on the forward edge. I spent a whole shift checking hinges and actuators, everything was in spec. Yesterday I finally pulled the seal and found a tiny, hard piece of FOD, maybe a piece of plastic, wedged in the channel. Cleaned it out, reinstalled, and the door closed with that solid 'thump' you love to hear. Pressure check held for 24 hours no problem. Anyone else ever find something weird jammed in a seal track like that?

Read a study that said drywall dust can stay in the air for over 8 hours. Found it in a safety PDF from a union training site. How do you guys handle cleanup to keep it down?

The riverbank I cleared in 2019 is now a full-on beaver lodge

I dredged a stretch of the Little Creek channel back then to improve flow, and just drove by it yesterday to find a massive, gnawed-down beaver dam right where my spoil pile was. Guess they really liked the fresh start and all the easy-to-chew new growth. Has anyone else had wildlife move in and completely re-engineer your work site?
