inJust realized my level was off by a quarter inch on a 10 floor job
I used to think that way too but honestly a quarter inch adds up quick across a whole building.

inOverheard a guy at the parts counter say he stopped buying those cheap multimeters after one literally smoked on him during a capacitor discharge
Bet the guy made some good decisions that day, huh? Like trusting the cheap meter to not turn into a firework. I swear those things are designed to fail at the worst possible moment, probably right when you think you've got everything figured out. And honestly, if your meter is giving you wrong voltage readings, you're already playing Russian roulette with your face. The smoke was probably just the manufacturer's final gift to him before it quit. At least now he's got a nice little story to tell while he's buying the real deal.

inSpent 45 minutes troubleshooting a loose DisplayPort cable
I mean, idk maybe it's just me but isn't that kind of what you get paid to check first? It's literally the first thing I do before I even boot anything up. Half the time if you wiggle the cable and the monitor flickers you've already found your problem without swapping anything.

inFed up with coupon apps that require a minimum spend for discounts
Right, because apparently walking two blocks to save $3.50 is some kind of financial wizardry now. But hey, if it helps you sleep better at night looking at that bank statement, more power to you.

inMy $80 wild garlic kimchi disaster that smelled like a gym sock
...but honestly, I think you might have saved yourself from something worse by dumping it. Wild garlic has a really short window where it's mild, and by mid April around here the bulbs start getting that weird sulfur punch. I tried a small batch once with just a pound mixed into a standard batch and it still turned funky after two weeks. The problem is regular kimchi has that fermented garlic note that builds slowly, but wild garlic is all upfront and aggressive. It pushes everything out of balance. You probably made the right call tossing it. That smell doesn't fade, it just gets stronger and more unpleasant.
