Had to weld a 3/4 inch thick patch on a boiler in St. Louis last Tuesday, and the heat was something else.

Bet you never worked a July in Houston. That humidity makes metal sweat before you even strike an arc. St. Louis heat is a dry bake, easier to manage. Try overhead welding on a barge down south when the air feels like soup. Makes any boiler job seem like a vacation.
