My buddy ran into the same thing out in Bedford County, where the 1920 plat book put his well a good 300 feet off from the 1887 survey, and it turned out the newer one was just sloppy hand copying. Surveyors back then walked the ground with chains and knew every creek bend, while later draftsmen just traced old lines and introduced errors that stuck for decades. Sounds like Persimmon Hollow got wiped by someone redrawing the sheet, not by anything actually happening on the land.

Why would you waste your time with cardboard when the whole problem is your kitchen light? Cardboard has a different texture and finish than cabinet doors, so it reflects light differently. I made the same mistake with my bathroom vanity, painted a board, loved it, put it on the wood and it went green. The peel and stick trick works because you see the real surface, the real light, and the real shadows all at once. Ten minutes beats two weeks of staring every time.
