Yeah that sounds like a real pain, sorry you had to deal with that. They look like a good deal in theory but most of the cheaper ones are just built too light for real work. Landscaping crews around here usually stick with the three-point hitch models from the bigger brands and even those get finicky.

Idk man I used to think you just had to swap them out too, but seeing your post makes me realize I was just buying into the hype. That's a good point about the cheap vinyl failing way faster than something you actually fix up.

And the wax trick also helps stop rust from forming on the table surface. I started using Johnson's paste wax on my jointer and planer beds too. Just a thin coat, let it haze, then buff it off. Makes a huge difference on older cast iron tops that tend to get sticky in humid weather.

Ain't that the truth - you pay twice when you skip doing it right the first time.
