Latex paint over oil without primer, nightmare in my kitchen
Ngl, I slapped latex over oil-based trim in my 1940s bungalow last weekend and by Tuesday the whole thing peeled like sunburned skin. I learned the hard way that you need a bonding primer first, has anyone else had this happen and what did you use to strip it all off?
Shaking my head over here because Ive done the exact same thing and it was a total disaster. I painted a whole bathroom cabinet with latex over oil and it peeled off in giant sheets like I was peeling a giant orange. Youre gonna need to strip it all the way down, no shortcuts. I used a chemical stripper and a whole lot of elbow grease, took me like two weekends to get it all off. Next time Im definitely using a bonding primer, learned that one the hard way. Good luck getting that kitchen back to normal, thats a brutal mess to deal with.
