That moment I realized I was an idiot with the orbital sander

Found out my drill has a clutch setting after stripping 30 screws.

Caulking the tub took me 3 full days, is that normal or am I doing it backwards?

Took me three days too the first time, but mostly because my cat kept sitting in the wet silicone. Every time I turned around he was parked right where I needed to run the bead. Ended up scraping the whole thing off on day two and starting fresh. Now I just close the bathroom door and let him yell at me from the hallway.

Old timing light from 1987 still outshines my fancy digital one

Have you ever thought about how analog tools actually show you what's happening in real time, instead of giving you a number that might be averaged or delayed? My old Sears timing light has a needle that jumps around when the points are worn or the chain is stretched, and that tells me more than any digital readout ever could. Digital stuff hides the messy little fluctuations that are usually the real clue. Sometimes the "outdated" tool is just more honest about what it's seeing.

Just hit 1,000 cleanings and it surprised me how many were repeat customers

Yeah, well, congrats on your little pile of wood ash and carbon monoxide. 400 repeat customers means those people either love your work or they're terrified their house is gonna burn down if they skip a year. Either way, you're winning. I'm guessing the referrals come from the ones who didn't have to call the fire department after you left. Word gets around fast when you're the one guy who doesn't leave a mess on their rug. Just don't let that number go to your head, you're still just the guy with the brush on a rope.
