Why does everyone cram their air fryer baskets full of fries?

I keep seeing posts where people pile frozen fries to the brim, then complain they come out soggy, but after 3 tries with a single layer at 400°F for 12 minutes, mine turn golden every time, so have you guys actually tried giving them space?

My buddy told me a 12-character password was overkill until he got hit by a credential stuffing attack

I've been telling my friend Mike for years to use a proper password manager and set up 2-factor authentication. He kept saying 'nobody cares about my Steam account' and used 'football98' for everything. Last month someone got into his email, then his bank, then his PayPal. Cost him about $400 before he noticed. He finally listened after that. Has anyone else had that one friend who just refuses until something bad happens?

Old guy in a pickup taught me something about lashing wire

I was out on a job in Greenville last spring, running new lines through this old neighborhood with trees everywhere. Pulled up to the pole and this older fella in a beat up Ford F-150 rolls down his window and watches me for a minute. He finally says "you're gonna fight that lashing wire all day if you don't let it run natural off the spool instead of forcing it." I thought I knew better but after 40 feet of it birdnesting on me I gave his way a try. He just nodded and drove off, never even told me his name. That one tip probably saved me 20 minutes per span on the rest of the job. Anyone else pick up a trick from a random bystander that actually worked?

Bought a $40 book on logical fallacies for a debate and it was worth every penny

I got into a big online argument about a popular conspiracy theory last month and kept hitting a wall. The other person kept using the same bad arguments but I couldn't explain why they were wrong. I spent about forty bucks on a used copy of 'The Fallacy Detective' to get better at spotting bad logic. After reading it, I can now point out things like ad hominem attacks or false dilemmas in real time. It completely changed how I approach these discussions, making me focus on the argument's structure instead of just the facts. Anyone have other good resources for keeping debates on track?

Appreciation post: That time a front shoe took me 3 hours longer than it should have

I had a client's horse with a quarter crack that kept splitting every time I tried to nail on the new shoe. I ended up having to rasp the wall back way more than I planned, then shape the shoe with a clip on the opposite side to take pressure off. What I thought would be a 45 minute job turned into nearly 4 hours of reworking and checking fit. Has anyone else run into a crack that just keeps going no matter how careful you are?

My mom said she'd never use an air fryer, but now she makes her own fries every Friday

She was so set in her ways with her old deep fryer, saying the air fryer was just a fad. Last week I visited her in Portland and she had a whole basket of crispy sweet potato fries ready. She told me she hasn't bought frozen fries in six months because it's so easy to just cut up a potato. Has anyone else had a family member do a total flip like that?

My brother told me he saw the same license plate number three times in one day.

He was driving from his house in Bellingham to a job site near Everett. He said the plate was 7JX-482, and it was on a blue pickup, then a white sedan, then a different blue pickup. It made me think about how often we really notice these things. Has anyone else had a number or word follow them around like that?

Warning: I keep seeing people at the studio blow their first gather way too thin

I was at the open studio in Asheville last weekend and watched three people in a row pull their initial gather off the pipe before it was even 1/2 inch thick. It makes the whole piece unstable from the start and you can't add enough heat later to fix it. How do you guys judge when that first gather is thick enough to start working?

I used to think a boning knife was just a boning knife

But I picked up a Victorinox 6-inch stiff model after using a cheap flexible one for years. The control on breaking down a whole pork shoulder is night and day, way less wasted meat. Anyone have a favorite brand for poultry that's a bit more nimble?
