That $400 panel I bought off Craigslist came with a surprise inside

I picked up a used Vista panel from some guy in Denver for cheap, figured it was a steal at $400 with all the parts. Got it home and opened it up to find a family of dead mice and enough droppings to fill a shot glass. Has anyone else ever bought used gear that had way more than you bargained for?

Can we talk about the day my buttercream turned into soup?

Last Saturday I was making a birthday cake for my niece and the kitchen hit 85 degrees because our AC died. My buttercream went from stiff peaks to a watery mess in under 5 minutes no matter how much powdered sugar I added. Has anyone else had a recipe totally fall apart because of room temperature?

I finally understand why my dad insisted on priming every surface twice

So last weekend I was helping my buddy paint his garage in Denver and he skipped primer altogether on this old drywall patch. Dude just slapped cheap paint over it and called it good. Two days later the patch is totally flashing through like a ghost lol. I kept quiet but man I heard my dad's voice in my head saying "prime it twice or cry twice". Has anyone else had a paint fail that made you think back to something your parents taught you?

Shoutout to the dude who showed me how to sharpen a knife with a coffee mug

Last Sunday I was prepping at this tiny spot in Brooklyn and my chef knife was dragging through a bell pepper like a butter knife. I mentioned it and this old line cook just grabbed my knife and a ceramic mug from the shelf, flipped the mug over, and ran the blade along the unglazed ring on the bottom like 10 times. It actually sharpened it enough to finish the shift. Has anyone else tried this or am I just late to the party?

My empty living room wall sat blank for 6 months before I saw the lightbulb moment

I kept staring at this big wall in my apartment thinking a giant painting was the only option, then my neighbor showed me a gallery wall with 9 small framed photos he got at a thrift store for $12 total. Has anyone else found that mixing random frame sizes and colors actually looks better than matching sets?

Picked up a Thermapen clone on Amazon after ruining three ribeyes guessing doneness. Nailed the 125F internal temp on a whole tenderloin last Saturday for a 12-top. Anyone else finally break down and buy one after burning money on overcooked meat?

Overheard a guy at the bike shop say chain wax is a waste of time

I was at the local bike shop last week picking up some tubes and this older dude was talking to the mechanic about chain maintenance. He said waxing your chain is just a gimmick and that he's been using the same bottle of wet lube for 10 years with no issues. It got me thinking though because I've been fighting with a dirty drivetrain for months after switching to a wax based lube. My chain gets sticky after just two rides on dusty trails near me in Phoenix and I'm constantly cleaning it. Now I'm wondering if that guy has a point or if I just picked the wrong wax product. Has anyone else tried wax and then given up on it for something simpler?
