Finally figured out why my chain kept slipping on the big hill

Tried replacing the cassette and chain separately but it still slipped until I learned you have to replace both at the same time to match the wear patterns. Anyone else waste money on just one part first before figuring that out?

TIL my history students thought "the Great Depression" was just a sad mood for three weeks

I was teaching a unit on the 1930s to my high school sophomores last March and asked them to write a paragraph about how the Depression affected families. One student turned in a paper about "people feeling really down and staying in bed" and I nearly lost it, turns out half the class thought it was a psychological term. Has anyone else had a lesson completely derailed by a weird student misunderstanding?

I used to cool my pieces right after shaping. Seemed like a time saver. But they would crack almost every time. Stopped doing that two months ago. Now I anneal them slowly in the kiln. My last ten pieces all came out solid. Saved a lot on replacement glass too.
