Heat pump skeptic after my furnace died last winter

Are we really acting like a smart defrost cycle is life changing now? @charlesb42 I mean sure, it's a little better than the old units that would just blast heat every hour like clockwork, but it's still a heat pump in winter. It has to defrost. Your buddy probably just doesn't hear it because the newer ones are quieter, not because it's doing less work. And the electric bill thing? Man, unless you're keeping a detailed spreadsheet, you're not gonna notice a difference unless you live in a place where it barely freezes. I'd just set it and forget it.

PSA: Stop stretching residential carpet the same way you do commercial

Oh man, that's rough! One thing I don't see people mention is that residential carpet has way more backing stretch than commercial stuff, so if you crank it tight it just keeps pulling back on itself like a rubber band. The heat in Phoenix probably made that even worse since the backing relaxes and lets go of all that tension over time.

Just realized I've been cleaning my soldering iron tips all wrong

Isnt that just how everything works - the little tricks nobody tells you about?

Caught a bad batch of coal last week - cost me a full day of work

Doesn't that just sum up how everything is going these days though? You either get a half-hearted sorry or you're the one stuck doing all the legwork to prove your own problem exists... feels like nobody wants to own their mistakes anymore.

Worst week for chain maintenance I've ever had

Three chains in five days is brutal, especially the kid's bike just sitting there. Tbh sometimes it's just bad luck with a batch of chains or something. Hope it turns around for you soon.
