Unpopular opinion: the cheapest quote cost me $300 extra when my truck showed up a week late in Dallas
Booked a carrier for $650 to move my Silverado from Dallas to Denver last month, and the broker vanished the second I paid the deposit. Turns out the actual driver was a subcontractor who never got the pickup date, so my truck sat at a lot on Harry Hines Blvd for 6 days. I ended up paying another $300 to a different company just to get it moved. Anyone else get burned by a lowball quote, or did I just pick the wrong broker?
That line about the broker vanishing the second you paid the deposit is the real story here. The cheap quote only works because someone down the chain is getting squeezed, and it's never the broker. What usually happens is the broker posts your load on a board for less than what you paid, so the guy who actually shows up is already losing money before he hooks up. That driver has zero reason to care about your pickup date, so your truck sits while he chases better loads. Add a subcontractor on top of that and now nobody owns the problem, not the broker, not the driver, not the lot on Harry Hines. The extra $300 wasn't bad luck, it was the real price all along, you just paid it in two pieces.
