Take the raceway thing one step further and mount a power strip to the underside of the desk with the same adhesive strips. Then you only have one cord going to the wall instead of four, and the cat can't get behind there to yank anything. I did that plus a little velcro wrap at each end so the cables don't sag out of the channel. Whole thing cost maybe $25 and it's held up for a year now.

Why is carrying a big screen suddenly a bad thing? You got real work done on that thing for 8 months in some of the best spots in Asia, and a tiny tablet would've had you squinting at spreadsheets and hating every minute. People act like light gear is always better but there's a trade off, smaller screen means slower work, more zooming, more eye strain, and worse posture than you had before. Sounds like your problem wasn't the monitor at all, it was that you let the setup run your day instead of the other way around, you could've parked it at a guesthouse and traveled with just a phone. Plenty of us drag around heavy stuff on purpose because the work comes out better and that's the actual point of the trip, not collecting stamps in a passport.
