That quiet stretch on Route 9 in Vermont gave me a weird feeling

And you start noticing that kind of thing once you pay attention, like how every new streetlight in my town has a little serial number stamped on the base that nobody ever explains. It's almost like there's a whole separate layer of stuff going on with infrastructure that we're just not meant to see the point of.

Fork service intervals starting to bug me

Wait, are you sure that fork was actually at 300 hours of use? That seems low for the seals to be completely shot unless it was rode in some serious mud or rain. Most 2019 forks Ive seen are usually fine past that mark if you at least wipe the stanchions down after rides. The 50 hour thing is more of a best case for people racing or riding in nasty conditions, not the average guy hitting trails on weekends. I think the real issue is people never even check for oil on the stanchions, so by the time they bring it in its way past any service window.

Parchment paper vs greasing the pan, which hill are you dying on?

Isn't it just proof that every rule needs a kitchen test?

Journeyman told me to mark my shell plate before beveling, saved my butt in Tulsa

Honestly, I’ve been burned so many times by trusting my eye that I now mark everything like I’m leaving a trail of breadcrumbs. Tbh, my first few years I just eyeballed it and ended up grinding out more metal than I actually cut, which is embarrassing when the foreman walks by. Ngl, that scribe line is the difference between a clean bevel and me staring at the plate like it personally insulted my family. I still mess up plenty, but at least now I know it’s my cut, not my guess. Kinda funny how the simplest trick is the one you fight the hardest.

That $60 proofing box was a total waste, stick to your oven

Mine hit 68 degrees and then the fan kicked on like a tiny jet engine, turning my dough into jerky in under half an hour. I threw a damp towel in there to fight the dry air, which helped a bit, but then the whole box smelled like a basement. Ended up using the oven with the light on anyway, so basically paid $60 for extra counter space for three weeks.
