PSA: the 3/8 inch punch I made over a year ago is still stuck in a drift and I still can't get it out
Two hours of soaking in penetrating oil and a solid hour of tapping with a brass hammer later, that little sucker in my Dayton shed is still frozen in there, so does anyone have a soak or heat trick that actually frees a stuck punch without wrecking the drift?
Soaking in penetrating oil won't do much if the punch is frozen in there tight, it needs to creep into the gap and there may not be one. Heat the drift around the punch with a torch, not the punch itself, and it should let go.
