inSaw a huge silver maple come down in a storm in Dayton, changed how I think about cavity inspections.
My uncle lost a 40 year old oak in his backyard to the exact same thing. It looked perfect, full canopy, but a woodpecker hole near the base was the only clue. He had some guy out who just poked the ground with a stick and said it was fine. After it fell, the inside was just a shell of punky wood and old wasp nests. Makes you wonder how many "quick look" inspections miss the big problems. I've started carrying a long, thin screwdriver to gently probe any suspect spots after I sound them.

inHonestly, my foreman in Mobile kept telling me to run the suction line at full throttle in silt, said it was the only way. Ruined a pump in 3 days.
Yeah, that fine silt is a killer, but I've found if you throttle back just enough to keep the suction, it actually pulls less abrasive material into the pump. Lets the water do more of the work without chewing up the impeller as fast.

inRemember when you could just swap a board and be done?
You ever read about those old ThinkPads from the early 2000s? I saw a forum post where a guy had a T42 with a dead hard drive. He popped off the keyboard, swapped in a cheap SSD, and it booted right up. No special tools, just a screwdriver. That kind of simple fix feels like a lost art now.

inI learned the hard way that you can't just swap corn syrup for honey in a pecan pie recipe.
Oh man, that's the best kind of kitchen disaster. I've totally been there with the smoke alarm serenade. Honestly, a lot of those super sweet, sticky fillings work way better as a sauce or a topping. Like, that burnt sugar note you probably got? That's basically a cheat code for a fancy caramel sauce. Next time you could even add a pinch of salt to the mess and just call it a salted honey-pecan topping. Way less stress than a perfect pie crust.

inJust saw a restaurant in Austin charge $18 for a tiny jar of pickles
Totally feel you on the kitchen smell, @elizabeththomas! A wide mouth jar with a cloth cover helps a ton with that weird odor. It really does turn into a messy project fast, so I don't blame anyone for buying the good stuff.
