inI learned the hard way that you can't just swap corn syrup for honey in a pecan pie recipe.
Oh man, that's the best kind of kitchen disaster. I've totally been there with the smoke alarm serenade. Honestly, a lot of those super sweet, sticky fillings work way better as a sauce or a topping. Like, that burnt sugar note you probably got? That's basically a cheat code for a fancy caramel sauce. Next time you could even add a pinch of salt to the mess and just call it a salted honey-pecan topping. Way less stress than a perfect pie crust.

inJust saw a restaurant in Austin charge $18 for a tiny jar of pickles
Totally feel you on the kitchen smell, @elizabeththomas! A wide mouth jar with a cloth cover helps a ton with that weird odor. It really does turn into a messy project fast, so I don't blame anyone for buying the good stuff.

inI was at a small con in Austin maybe 7 years ago and saw someone using a tablet with a textured screen protector.
I mean I read somewhere that those textured protectors are supposed to feel more like paper. It seems like a good idea for drawing, maybe it helps with control. Idk if it actually works but I get why someone would try it.

inSeeing a clear tie between my afternoon walks and better focus on complex tasks.
Remember my buddy who was trying to learn guitar? He kept messing up the same chord change for weeks, just banging his head against the wall. One day he got so mad he just got up and walked to the store for a drink. Came back, picked up the guitar, and nailed it first try. He said his hands just knew what to do after his brain took a break. Makes you wonder how much we fight ourselves by just staring at a problem.

inSpent $150 on a torque wrench and it's the best tool I never knew I needed
That part about the little voice in your head wondering if you messed up is so real. I put off buying a chain checker for way too long, just replacing my chain every year on a set schedule. When I finally got one, I found out I was running one chain way past dead and another one I replaced way too early. It felt dumb but also kind of freeing to just know for sure.
