The van movers in El Paso quoted me $1,850, then 'found' another $600 on delivery day
I moved my sister's Honda from Phoenix to Chicago last month and got quotes from five companies. The broker in El Paso gave me $1,850 and swore it was the final number, said everything was locked in. Day of pickup the driver looks at the car and says it needs a bigger spot on the truck, that's another $300. Then at drop off in Chicago the guy hands me a bill for another $300 for 'fuel surcharge' that was never on the paperwork. My sister ended up paying $2,450 for a trip that three other places quoted between $2,100 and $2,300 flat. The cheap quote was just bait to get the job. Has anyone actually gotten a mover to honor the original price, or is this just how it works now?
Yep, same exact scam with my buddy's car from Tucson to Denver. Brokers quote low to win the job then the driver stacks on fees at pickup and you're stuck because your car is already on the truck. It's straight bait and switch and the "locked in" price means nothing once they got your keys.
