I finally weighed my finished compost after six months in a five-gallon bucket

That's a really cool result. What was the starting weight of your scraps before they broke down? I'm trying to figure out the shrink rate for my own bin.

Vent: My brother-in-law saw my floating shelf install and just said 'you know those brackets show, right?'

Ugh, that kind of "help" is the worst. My own DIY projects are basically a museum of tiny mistakes only I can see. At this point, if a visitor doesn't point out a flaw, I start to worry they're not looking hard enough. It's like my personal brand of home decor anxiety. That shelf is probably perfectly fine and he just ruined your ability to enjoy it.

Our shop switched from a standard flood coolant to a high-pressure mist system for aluminum work.

Honestly I was in the same boat, thought it was just a gimmick. But the mist setup lets me push feeds way harder without worrying about heat. I actually bumped my speed up about 15% on aluminum because the cooling is so constant. Parts come out dry and clean, which is a game changer for finish work. Totally changed my mind on using coolant for smaller jobs.

Warning about that 'quick fix' with painter's tape for miter joints

My buddy tried that exact tape trick on some baseboard. It pulled the top edges together but the bottom flared out, left a tiny wedge-shaped gap full of dried glue. He ended up using a ratchet strap around the whole workpiece, which was overkill but it worked.

PSA: My home's energy bill dropped from $300 to $90 a month after a simple change

But what if your house is too sealed now? I heard that can cause mold and bad air.
