inThat fancy titanium camp cup I swore was a gimmick
Oh man, did I ever cave on something like that? I bought a Mystery Ranch coulee backpack last year (the 25L one) and I was so sure it was just overpriced hype. But the frame actually transfers weight to my hips better than any pack I've used, and it's been on like 15 trips now with zero wear. It's kind of annoying when the expensive stuff actually earns its price tag, you know? Makes it harder to go back to the basic stuff.

inMy neighbor in Springfield said to always check the 'free' section on Tuesday mornings. I found a working lawnmower last week.
Wait, isn't Tuesday morning the day after bulk pickup in most towns?

inJust found out the original 1930s edition of The Hobbit used a specific kind of goat skin for the cover. Read it in a footnote in a library book about publishing history.
Used to think footnotes were just boring extra stuff. Your story about finding those missing diagrams changed my mind completely. Now I always check them.

inI just saw a crew in Phoenix not using a knee kicker on a 20 foot seam.
You're right about the skill part, @barbara_butler, but the room's shape gets overlooked. A simple square is one thing, but a room with lots of angles and cut-outs is nearly impossible to stretch right without a power stretcher. That's where the real difference shows up.

inBack in '08, the shop gave me a choice between a new digital tester or a full set of old-school analog gauges.
Maybe 99% of the time a digital readout gives you the exact same info. That visual lag you like is just a needle being slow. If you really need to see a sweep, scope it. A gauge is just a pretty picture most mechanics don't need anymore.
