That time I put my tomato plants in those cheap black plastic pots on my fire escape

Oh man that's rough. I mean I've had similar problems with dark pots on my own balcony during those scorching weeks. Wrapping them in newspaper is a smart fix, I bet aluminum foil would work too since it reflects the heat back instead of absorbing it.

Vent: spent a whole Saturday chasing a missing semicolon in my JavaScript

Wait, did you not have some kind of linting or a code editor that catches that? I had a buddy who spent like three hours once trying to figure out why his React app wasn't rendering a list of users. He was getting really frustrated because nothing showed up on the page, no errors in the console, just blank. It turned out he accidentally wrote a comma in an array of objects when it should have been a semicolon at the end of a line inside a map function. I felt bad for him because he even asked me to look at his code, and we both just stared at it for twenty minutes before I spotted it. That stuff is the worst because it's so small and easy to miss after staring at code for hours.

Tried reading a 'classic' on a road trip and it backfired big time

Ngl you're totally right about the short chapters thing. I tried reading Infinite Jest on a bus tour through Scotland once and ended up having to read the same page like four times because of all the footnotes. You need something that moves quick when you're in a car, otherwise you'll just zone out and miss your exit or something. Fast paced thrillers or funny memoirs are the way to go for sure.

Saw a demo of AI voice cloning at a tech meetup last night and it scared me

@mitchell.mark the 2023 hack of 17 banks says otherwise, that trick had real teeth.

My bathroom vanity drawer fell apart after only 6 months

Used to think wood glue was only for craft projects and model airplanes. Never really trusted it for anything structural. Then my own bathroom cabinet hinge pulled clean out of the particle board. Picked up some Titebond and a couple small L brackets from the hardware store, cost maybe 8 bucks total. That was two years ago and the door still lines up perfect. Changed my whole view on what that stuff can handle.
