Talked to a bridal party client and it changed how I do foundation
I had a bride come in last Saturday who told me her foundation always looked cakey in photos no matter what brand she used. She mentioned she dries her face with a towel right before applying makeup and I realized that was stripping her skin. Has anyone else found that prepping with a hydrating mist instead of blotting totally changes how foundation sits?

People skip the basics way too often. Saw a guy at the gym last week scrub his face with a rough towel after a workout and then complain about breakouts. Same problem, different setting. That drying step is like starting a race with flat tires. A quick spray before foundation is smart but it's also just common sense that most folks overlook because they're in a rush. Getting the simple stuff right first makes everything else easier, whether it's makeup or anything else you're trying to do.

Oh man @drew805 that gym story is too real. I actually read somewhere that a lot of people strip their skin's natural barrier without even realizing it, like using harsh scrubs or rough towels when gentle patting would do the same job. That spray thing makes total sense because if your face is already dry and clean, the foundation sits way better and doesn't cake up in weird spots. It's funny how skipping one simple step just messes up everything else you're trying to do.

Wait, she uses a TOWEL to dry her face right before makeup?? Like a rough dry towel?? I'm actually shocked, that's such a basic skincare no-no. Towels are super abrasive on wet skin, they cause microtears and irritation that nobody talks about. No wonder her foundation looked cakey, her face was probably freaking out and producing extra oil to compensate for the stripped barrier. I switched to patting my face dry with just my hands or a soft paper towel years ago and it made a huge difference in how smooth my makeup goes on. The hydrating mist trick is genius though, I'm definitely stealing that.
