Getting the right curve on a custom fireplace poker took me three entire afternoons.

I kept heating and bending it, but the scroll at the end just wouldn't sit flat against the handle until I tried quenching the straight section first to keep it from moving... what's your go-to method for tight scrolls?

The new guy on our crew in Boise kept using a 4-inch level for everything

Last week he was trying to set a 12-foot header with it, and the whole thing was off by a quarter inch. I had to show him my 6-footer and explain that the short level just can't catch the full bow in long stock. Anyone else run into this with newer folks coming up?

Got stuck for a whole weekend on a door lock issue that should've been a two hour job

Man, that sounds brutal... tracing a single wire for a whole weekend. Did you have to pull new wire through that whole conduit run, or were you able to splice it somewhere? I had a similar thing with a fire alarm horn that wouldn't stop beeping. Spent a day and a half on it... turned out to be a tiny crack in a circuit board trace you needed a magnifying glass to even see.

PSA: A tiny static shock ruined a GPU and my rep. Are anti-static steps worth it?

Yeah, that's exactly why I don't skip it anymore either. I had a close call with a GPU, felt a tiny zap and my heart just dropped. Ever since then, I'm like @burns.mila, I won't even open the case without touching the power supply first. It feels silly until you lose something, right? That extra minute is nothing compared to waiting for a new part to ship.
