The new guy on our crew in Boise kept using a 4-inch level for everything
Last week he was trying to set a 12-foot header with it, and the whole thing was off by a quarter inch. I had to show him my 6-footer and explain that the short level just can't catch the full bow in long stock. Anyone else run into this with newer folks coming up?

Is a quarter inch over 12 feet really that big of a deal for most jobs? I get the principle, but in my experience, a lot of stuff gets covered up or it just doesn't matter in the final look. Maybe he just needs to learn when close enough is actually good enough.

That 4-inch level story reminds me of a guy who tried to cut baseboard with a hacksaw.
