Got stuck for a whole weekend on a door lock issue that should've been a two hour job
Honestly, I had a call for a stuck elevator in a 90s office building downtown. The car door lock just wouldn't engage, and the controller kept faulting. I figured it was a simple adjustment or a worn roller. Tbh, after checking the obvious stuff, I spent a full Saturday and Sunday tracing a single broken wire in a 50-foot run of conduit between the car top and the machine room. The insulation was fine, but the copper inside had snapped. Has anyone else had a phantom wiring fault eat up that much time? What's your worst 'simple' fix that blew up?

Broken wires in conduit are the worst to find.

Man, that sounds brutal... tracing a single wire for a whole weekend. Did you have to pull new wire through that whole conduit run, or were you able to splice it somewhere? I had a similar thing with a fire alarm horn that wouldn't stop beeping. Spent a day and a half on it... turned out to be a tiny crack in a circuit board trace you needed a magnifying glass to even see.
