Update: I drove past the same blue house in Springfield three times in one day, each time on a different street.

Springfield has a ton of those mid-century ranch houses that all look the same, especially in older neighborhoods. The builder probably used the same blue paint and red door on a bunch of them to save money. You were just on different streets in the same development, so it makes sense you'd see repeats. That gnome statue is probably sold at every garden center in the state, so it's not a unique marker. Couldn't it just be a case of getting turned around and not realizing how close those streets really are?

I used to think you had to win to have fun at board game nights. Then a guy at a cafe in Austin just kept laughing when I blocked his best move.

Totally get that. My group used to be super competitive until we tried a co-op game like Pandemic. Watching everyone scramble to stop outbreaks together, even when we lost, was way more fun than just one person winning. It changed the whole vibe.

I finally understood why they say to check the mirror box first after a job in Savannah

Your boss nailed it! That mirror box check is a lifesaver. My version is cleaning the battery contacts before any electronics repair. So many "dead" devices just have a layer of corrosion. A quick scrub with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab fixes half my jobs in under a minute. It feels too simple, but skipping it wastes so much time chasing phantom circuit issues.

Heard the hype about those cheap solar lanterns from the big online store, figured they'd be junk.

So you're saying my expensive flashlight is a total waste?

Chatting with a firefighter at my kid's school changed how I think about emergency recall

Yeah, because nothing says "professional maintenance" like letting a ten dollar dust bunny shut down a whole building's safety plan. I guess we're all just hoping the machine room is running a clean enough operation to pass inspection on its own. Next time I skip it I'll just picture a whole fire crew standing around, staring at the ceiling, while I saved myself ninety seconds. Real good look for the trade.
