I finally drove out to the Joshua Tree dark sky zone last weekend

I always thought you needed a huge telescope to see anything good, but just lying on a blanket, I could see the Milky Way so clearly with my own eyes. It was a totally different feeling than looking at pictures online, you know? Has anyone else had that kind of moment where just being somewhere made you get it?

Yeah, that "different feeling than pictures" thing is so true. Did the quiet out there hit you as hard as the view?

Honestly, the quiet was almost too much for me. I got jumpy! My brain kept waiting for a car horn or a phone ping. The view was the real thing that stuck with me, like the way the light changed on the rocks over an hour. That felt huge and permanent, while the silence just felt... empty.
